Terms of service (draft)
These are the three provisions we consider settled today. Everything else a real Terms of Service needs — liability, dispute resolution, account termination, acceptable use — isn't written yet, and will be before this product accepts real, paying users.
Draft — not a complete, lawyer-reviewed agreement
Your idea stays yours
Submitting an idea, description, pitch, or update transfers no ownership or intellectual property to us. We get a limited licence to store, process, and display it only as needed to run the service — including sending it to our AI provider for analysis (see below) — and that licence ends when you delete it. We never publish an idea beyond the visibility you set (private, cohort, or public) without your own action.
AI analysis is part of the service
When you submit an idea for analysis, its title and description are sent to our AI provider to generate it. That is how the service works, not an optional extra, and using the platform means accepting it. If you'd rather not, leave the idea as a private draft — a draft is never sent. Which providers receive the text, and under what guarantees, is set out in the privacy policy.
We introduce people — we don't employ them
thestarter helps founders and contributors find each other; it is not an employer, staffing agency, or employment broker for anyone who uses it. Any working relationship, compensation, or equity arrangement formed between users is between those users — we're not a party to it and don't guarantee its terms. Match scores are a signal to help a founder decide, not an employment decision we stand behind.
